9th August 2026 was a day when the Koncab family came together not merely for an AGM, but for a wonderful celebration of faith, achievements, friendship, family and of course, good food.

The day began on a spiritual note, with the Holy Mass at 8:30 a.m., celebrated by Rev. Fr. Jason. The atmosphere was made even more uplifting by the melodious Koncab choir, led by Kevin on the keyboard. Our talented choir members Jhonas, Arun, Nerry, Genisia, Rita, Laveena, Ida and Helen filled the hall with beautiful hymns.

Following the Holy Mass, everyone was treated to a delicious breakfast, which was certainly a welcome reward for those who had managed to arrive early. After all, nothing brings people together quite like good food.

At 10:45 a.m., the Annual General Meeting got underway, with our lively MC, Jhonas, welcoming the gathering with his usual warmth and enthusiasm.

President Arun Fernandes gave an insightful overview of the activities and achievements of KONCAB during 2025–2026, highlighting the efforts and initiatives that kept the association active and vibrant throughout the year.

Our Secretary, Rita Lobo, then presented the annual report, taking us through the various activities and accomplishments of the past year.

One of the highlights of the AGM was the presentation of the KONCAB Excellence Awards for 2025–2026.

Seven deserving wards of KONCAB members were felicitated for their outstanding achievements. Their success was a matter of great pride, not only for their families but for the entire Koncab community. Their accomplishments reminded us that hard work, perseverance and dedication truly deserve to be celebrated.

A big congratulations to all our young achievers- may this be just the beginning of many more milestones.

Then came the much-awaited moment – the Koncab Logo Contest Winner Announcement.

With 17 enthusiastic members participating, the contest certainly brought out the creative spirit within our community. After much anticipation, we were delighted to announce Mr. Rohit Rego as the proud winner  was presented with a cash prize of Rs 5000/-

Congratulations, Rohit! Your creativity has now earned you not just applause, but the enviable distinction of having your winning design associated with koncab.

Once the serious business was wrapped up, it was time to put the minutes, reports and formalities aside and let the Family Day festivities begin.

The celebrations kicked off in spectacular fashion with an energetic flashmob by our talented girls — Reema, Helen, Ronita, Cynthia, Meryl, Savita, Laveena and Khushi.

Their enthusiasm and coordination were truly commendable.

And then came the games- for absolutely everyone.

From the young to the young-at-heart, members enthusiastically joined in, proving that age is merely a number when there is a good game, a little competition and plenty of cheering involved. There was laughter, excitement and friendly rivalry.

The day finally reached its most eagerly anticipated finale- lunch. A sumptuous and delicious meal was served to all the members, giving everyone the perfect opportunity to sit back, relax, catch up with friends and enjoy one another’s company.

The Koncab AGM & Family Day 2026 was truly a celebration of faith, fellowship, achievement, creativity and togetherness.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed their time, talent and effort towards making the event such a memorable success.

It was a day that reminded us that KONCAB is not just an association — it is a family. And like every happy family, we pray together, work together, celebrate together, laugh together… and most importantly, eat together.  Here’s to another wonderful year of KONCAB camaraderie, creativity and community spirit!

Konkani Catholic Association – Bangalore (Koncab) successfully organized a spiritually enriching retreat for its members, bringing together a mixed gathering of the elderly, youth, and children on Sunday, 15th March at their hall, Konkan Samudai Bhavan, at Kalyan Nagar. A historic number of approximately 270 participants were present for this vibrant and faith-filled gathering. The retreat was conducted by Fr. Rudolph Pinto – OCD, whose dynamic preaching and deep spiritual insights left a lasting impact on all those in attendance.

The event commenced with a warm welcome extended by President Arun Fernandes to the participants, setting the tone for a reflective and grace-filled experience. Members from various families and age groups gathered with enthusiasm, united by their shared faith and cultural heritage. The presence of such a large number of attendees highlighted the strong sense of community and commitment within KONCAB.

Fr. Rudolph led the retreat with profound wisdom, focusing on themes of spiritual renewal, personal transformation, and the importance of living a Christ-centered life in today’s world of technology. His sessions were engaging and relatable, often drawing from real-life experiences, scripture, cultural values, and traditions. He encouraged participants to deepen their relationship with God through prayer, forgiveness, and acts of love and service. The retreat included multiple sessions spread throughout the day, interspersed with moments of praise and worship, silent reflection, and community prayer. Participants actively engaged in the sessions, responding with openness and sincerity. The Konkani language added a special touch to the retreat, making the message more intimate and meaningful for the attendees.

One of the highlights of the retreat was the self-assessment along with the healing and reconciliation session, where many participants experienced a sense of peace and spiritual renewal. The Holy Mass and personal prayer intentions further enhanced the retreat experience, allowing individuals to reconnect deeply with their faith.

After the retreat, there was a session for honouring Chevalier Nigel Fernandes for his rare feat, which has brought him the recognition of knighthood of the Order of St. Sylvester, bestowed on him by the Holy Father – Pope Leo XIV. This medal of honour is one of the highest awards bestowed with the special objective of rewarding the laity who are active in the apostolate, particularly in the exercise of their professional duties and mastery of the different arts. A short video on the relevance of the insignia was played on the screen before Fr. Rudolph gave away the memento to Chevalier Nigel Fernandes in the presence of the members.

The organizing team from Koncab ensured that the event was well-coordinated, with smooth logistics and thoughtful arrangements for seating, meals, and audio-visual support. Their dedication and teamwork played a significant role in the success of the retreat.

Participants expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to attend such a meaningful gathering. Many shared that they felt spiritually uplifted, inspired, and motivated to strengthen their faith and family life. The retreat also fostered a stronger sense of unity among members, reinforcing the importance of coming together as a faith community.

In conclusion, the Konkani retreat organized by Koncab and conducted by Fr. Rudolph was a resounding success. It not only provided spiritual nourishment but also strengthened the bonds of community among its members. The retreat stands as a testament to the power of faith, fellowship, and cultural identity in enriching the lives of individuals and families. Koncab is grateful to Fr. Rudolph Pinto OCD and Alex Crasta & team for their melodious choir. Koncab is indebted to Mrs. Juliet Quadros and family for sponsoring all the retreat expenses for the past several years, including the lunch, snacks, and tea that were prepared by Blue Bell Caterers for all participants. We also thank KWT Chairman Sylvester and the staff for all hall arrangements. A special thanks to Ida Sequeira and Reshma Tauro for leading the prayer team at Koncab. Thanks to the Executive Committee of Koncab for pitching in on the arrangements assigned to each one of them.

Kalanjali 2025, the annual talent show of Konkani Catholic Association of Bangalore(KON-CAB) was hosted and organized on November 9th at Konkan Samudai Bhavan hall – Kalyan Nagar, Bengaluru. KON-CAB has been providing this platform in Bengaluru for the past more than twenty five years, for all the Konkani associations to promote the language, traditions and culture, and to keep Konkani history alive.

The programme began with a pious prayer to St Anthony, the patron saint of KON-CAB. Rita Lobo, the secretary of Koncab, led the inaugural prayer along with the executive committee of KON-CAB and the blessings of the Almighty were invoked for the success of the programme.

KON-CAB president Arun Fernandes formally inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp, accompanied by secretary Rita Lobo, vice president Sylvester D’Souza, treasurer Harold Lewis and cultural secretary Sunny D’Souza. Following this, Kalanjali 2025 was declared open by the president Arun Fernandes.

The programme started with Konkani singing competitions. Old and new melodies sung by the contestants of all ages took the delighted audience into the nostalgic grand era of the immortal melodies of Konkan Kogul Wilfy Rebimbus, Henry D’Souza, Mic Max, Alfred, Lorna and Eric Ozario, while the latest Konkani heartthrobs like Kevin Misquith and Prajoth D’Souza too were invoked by the competitors. The Konkani group singing competition was a great hit among the audience, with the level of competition having raised up the bar to international concert standards with tenors, baritones and sopranos.

The singing competition was followed by fancy dress competition, showcasing new and innovative ideas, which literally took the audience agape with astonishment. Right from the tiny tots, to the super senior citizens, displayed mesmerizing outfits and props. A real treat for the eyes of the audience.

Soon after, a short Konkani comedy skit competition was held which was enjoyed by the packed crowd in the auditorium. The witty one liners and comedy element was brought out well by the performers.

Then came the much awaited, icing on the cake for all the Kalanjali programmes organized by KON-CAB from the past several years, the inter-association dance competitions for various categories which mesmerized the mood of everyone in the packed auditorium. Right from the dashing teens to the enchanting 35 years and the show stopper performances by high energy youth dancers left the audience in awe, as the dancers from different associations ignited the stage with their performances.

Kalanjali has just been improving by the years, in which children, the young and young at heart perform to the awe of everyone in the audience. This year too, the performances were a class beyond par excellence and the audience enjoyed every bit of it. There was a record number of participants and the program went on for a nonstop 11 hours. The youngest participant was 8 months while the oldest person to climb the state was 88 years. This shows the variety of participants coming to the Kalanjali stage.

The competitions were so nip and tuck that the esteemed panel of judges found it difficult to declare the winners. As every year, this year also, the competitions were judged by well qualified and experienced judges, who were maestros in their respective categories.

Its noteworthy that the judges chosen by KON-CAB over the years for the programme are highly professional and have sound knowledge in the respective category of events. This year the panel of judges included:

  • Singing: Luvena Rangel, Prajwal Mathias and Arun Patrick D’Silva
  • Fancy dress and Comedy skit: Sr. Lucy Mascarenhas, Edward Victor D’Souza, and Zaveena Lobo
  • Inter Association Dance: Snavaja, Rishika and Bharathi

Just before the Stage program commenced, there was a solemn ceremony in remembrance of late Shri Eric Ozario. A commentary on the life and achievements of Eric bab were presented along with photo slides of his eventful life, followed by a Medley of his compositions were sung by Vocal Horizon group. As Gurkhar of Mandd Sobbhan he has indeed left a rich legacy and a school of teaching for budding artists, musicians and writers from the Global Konkani community. Chief Guest Mr Leo Quadros, FKCA Chairman Mr Anthony Gonsalves, Presidents of all associations, Presiding Officer Arun Fernandes and other dignitaries paid their respects to Eric-bab by offering floral tributes to his portrait. KON-CAB salutes the Musical Guru, Litterateur and Crusader of Konkani Eric bab.

It was an Honour to have Mr Leo Quadros – Chairman of Canterbury Group as the chief guest for the programme, who is a well-known entrepreneur and philanthropist. He was escorted to the dais by President Arun Fernandes. The Guest of honour Anthony Gonsalves, chairman of FKCA, was ushered by secretary Rita Lobo. The presidents of all Konkani associations of Bengaluru, were also present on the dais for the final leg of the function. President of KON- CAB Arun Fernandes honoured the chief guest and also the guest of honour, and all the presidents of other Konkani Catholic associations of Bengaluru, present on the dais, followed by his Presidential Address to the gathering.

Leo Quadros, in his speech lauded the efforts of KON-CAB in arranging such a mega event, for the past 25+ years. He also appreciated the performance of the participants and observed that the quality of the programme was getting better and better each year. He also stressed the need for parents to encourage their children to do whatever they are best at and also urged the younger generation to be more involved in sports and extra-curricular activities.

Anthony Gonsalves, the guest of honour congratulated the KON-CAB president ArunFernandes and his Committee for putting up such a grand event and wished KON-CAB the very best for all their future endeavours, and also ensured all the required support from FKCA.

The chief guest, guest of honour and presidents of all associations distributed the prizes to the winners of the cultural competitions. About 14 associations from Bengaluru took part at Kalanjali 2025, and the auditorium was packed with a large number of participants from all Konkani associations from Bengaluru and even a larger number in the audience.

Last year’s title holders, KON-CAB were Runners up, and the Rolling Trophy and WinnersTrophy was lifted by KCA Mathikere by bagging the highest points, this year.

The programme was compered by Jhonas D’Souza and Reema, with support fromSylvia, , Kevin, Priyanka, Mable, Alita, Minal, Sunil, Sylvia,Helen, Harold, Gregory, Sylvester, Ida, Amit, Roshan, Elton, Stalen, Sladen, Vinuthan and other Committee members of KON-CAB.

Konkani Catholic Association – Bangalore (KON-CAB) brought along the Christmas spirit with the annual Christmas Tree event that was organised on December 16, at the Gardenia Rooftop Hall of the Konkan Samudai Bhavan, Bengaluru.

The members and guests were seen entering the venue wearing warm clothes to beat the chilly winter of Bengaluru, and eagerly exchanging pleasantries. The formal programme began at 7.25 p.m with a short prayer led by Kon-cab secretary Navya Monteiro. Kon-cab president Vincent D’Souza welcomed the Guest of Honour for the evening Mr. Robinson D’Souza, the presidents of neighboring Konkani associations and the members and guests present for the event. During his Welcome Address, the president gave a glimpse of the events planned and thanked the Executive Committee for all the arrangements and also those who would be participating in the different events lined up for the evening, for their support.

The Kon-cab kids got into a solemn Live Crib performance and brought alive the sequence of events around the birth of Jesus, right from the angel Gabriel calling upon Mary and Joseph to prepare for the divine birth of the Saviour the world awaits, the shepherds quaking at the sight, Mary and Joseph settling inside the stable to bring baby Jesus into the world and the 3 Kings following the Star of Bethlehem to honour the King of the Universe. The children performed their part so well and mesmerised the audience, as the Kon-Cab choir led by Walter Lobo, sang melodious carols in the background, to the music played by Kevin. The tots too joined in to conclude the carol singing, by wishing Feliz-navi-dad, to all present. The Live Crib performance was planned and presented by Sharmila D’Souza, which was enjoyed by the audience and received a thunderous applause from everyone present.

Cultural Secretary of Kon-cab Arun Fernandes read out the profile of the Guest of honour Mr Robinson D’Souza, who was the First and Former Principal Secretary to the Legislature of Karnataka, and also the Law Secretary to the Govt of Karnataka. It was indeed an honour for Kon-cab and the audience that one of our very own Konkani bureaucrat who had the rare opportunity to serve in all three institutions under the Constitution of India, viz. Judiciary, Executive and Legislature, was amongst us to grace the occasion. Mr. Robinson gave a message of peace for Christmas, by sighting some examples from his life and work which has helped him to be at peace and also share that peace with others, through his knowledge and profession. Mr Robinson was honoured by Kon-cab President Vincent D’Souza with a bouquet of flowers.

The guest of Honour Mr Robinson felicitated the winners of the Crib competition and “Adorn the Tree” contest which was conducted priorly for the members. Priya Pinto won the Crib competition and Nelson Pinto was the Runner-up whereas in the Adorn the Tree contest, Jake Miranda bagged the 3rd place, Zane Miranda was the runner up and Neil D’costa was adjudged the Winner. All the remaining contestants who took part in the competitions were given consolation prizes. The jury for both contests were Sylvester D’Souza, Sunil D’Cunha and Arun Fernandes.

Sunil D’Cunha arrived as Santa Claus and entertained the children with his Ho-Ho-Ho songs and distributed chocolates to all the kids present. Next in line were some games conducted by Savita, Rita and team. There were also many spot games organised that were fun to watch, with many prizes to take home. The Christmas Hamper loaded with goodies and Guess the weight cake contest, were also seen doing the rounds, with members enthusiastically participating in all games. While Col. Alexis Pereira was lucky to win the lavish hamper, Sunil D’Cunha on the other hand, took home the rich plum cake for guessing its correct weight.

The band Blue Knights led by Darryl and Ian mesmerised the audience with their wonderful singing and ensured that all were on their toes for a jig or two. Many were seen swaying to the music with their best steps and to the rhythm of baila music and other dance numbers. Sumptuous Mangalorean cuisine was served by Blue Bell Caterers. Jhonas D’Souza as Emcee for the program, unfolded the series of events lined up for the evening, for the members.

As the well-attended Christmas Tree evening came to an end, Koncab members and guests, took home fond memories of a spirited and memorable evening to celebrate the coming of our Lord. Truly a December to Remember, until the next one.
