KONAB Presents “Kalanjali -2019”

on Sunday, 17th Nov 2019 at Konkan Samudai Bhavan, Kalyan Nagar, Bangalore

KONCAB – the Konkani Catholic Association Bangalore, established at the eastern part of Bangalore, has been organizing the annual Talents Show “Kalanjali” for the past several years. The event “Kalanjali” is organized for Konkani Catholics in Bangalore to promote the inherent talents among the young and the old alike. Members belonging to all Konkani catholic associations in Bangalore participate in various competition events like individual and inter association Konkani singing, Fancy dress, Group Dance and Konkani comedy skit competitions. This event is witnessed by a large section of the people of Bangalore.

This year KONCAB will present this grand cultural competition festival KALANJALI-2019 depicting the tradition and culture of the Konkani speaking community on Sunday 17th November 2019 at Konkan Samudai Bhavan, Kalyan Nagar, Bangalore -560043  from 10.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. There will be individual and group competitions for different age groups in Konkani Singing and Fancy Dress. Also, there will be inter-association competitions in Group Dance, Konkani Comedy Skit, Singing and Fancy Dress Competitions.

Like Every year Arch Diocese of Bangalore celebrates birthday of the Church and the feast of the Holy Spirit through a prayerful Pentecostal Night Vigil at St. Patric’s Church in the heart of the City . On the Pentecost after the resurrection of Jesus, the Holy Spirit, according to the Acts of the Apostles, descended on the disciples in the form of tongues of fire accompanied by the sound of a rush of wind, and gave them the power of speaking in such a way that people of different languages could understand them. In Bangalore, after the Night Vigil which was conducted in five different languages in the same campus (Konkani, English, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam) starts to speak in one single language, the language of Love! during the Multilingual Eucharistic Celebration of Holy Mass at 3.30am by the Most Re. Dr. Bernanrd Moras Archbishop of Bangalore.

BCCRS Konkani Revival Prayer Group invites all the Konkani Families in Bangalore to Experience the Pentecost Blessings by joining this Night Vigil in large numbers  and to Praise & worship Risen Lord in our own mother tongue and to strengthen our spirituality and Konkani Prayer in Bangalore.

The post BCCRS Organized Pentecost-2016 Night Vigil in KONKANI on Saturday 14th May,2016 in Bangalore first appeared on KONCAB.

The program started on a pious note with a prayer to St.Anthony, the patron saint of KON-CAB at 10.00 am. Mrs. Sylviya Rodrigues lead the inaugural prayer along with the Executive Committee of KON-CAB and prayed for the success of the program. KON-CAB President Mr. Jhonas D’Souza formally inaugurated the program by lighting the lamp, accompanied by Secretary Mrs. Nora Menezes, Cultural Secretary Mr. Steven D’Silva, former presidents Mrs. Ida Sequeira, Mr. Sunil D’Cunha and two members from the audience.

President Jhonas D’Souza in his opening address mentioned that Kalanjali has been successful in fulfilling 4 key objectives: Bringing the Bangalore Konkani Catholics together, Providing a platform for Bangalore Konkans to showcase their talent, Keeping alive the Mangalorean culture and promoting our mother tongue Konkani among new generation. He thanked all Konkani Associations in Bangalore for their full support and participation. He wished all the participants, best of luck in their competitions.

The program started with Konkani singing competitions. There were various age groups in solo singing. Old and new melodies rendered by the contestants of all ages took the audience to another world. The Duet Singing competition and Group Singing competition were a great hit among the audience.

Singing was followed by Fancy dress competition for various age groups which showcased the new and innovative ideas and literally kept the audience mesmerized. Then it was time for the Dance competitions for above 35 years category where Konkani song is a must for the dance. The  Konkani Comedy Skit competition kept the audience entertained to the fullest. This was followed by Inter-Association dance competitions for children and youth categories which everyone was eagerly waiting for. The performance levels are reaching the new heights every year and the audience enjoyed every bit of it.

The competitors were judged by well qualified and experienced people who were masters in their respective fields. While Mr. Adrian D’Souza, Mr.Senek D’Souza and Sr. Nancy shared the responsibility of judging the singing, Mr.Charles Gomes, Mrs.Albina Vaz and Mrs.Dorothy Lsrado did the honors for Fancy dress and comedy skit competitions. Mr. Xavier, Ms.Rene Krishna, Mrs. SriVani Murugan and Mr.Alan Noronha.judged the dance competitions.

In the concluding stage program, Chief guest Mr.Mark D’Souza was accompanied by Presiding Officer Mr.Victor Edward D’Souza – the FKCA Chairman, KONCAB President Mr. Jhonas D’Souza, Secretary Mrs.Nora Menezes and Guests of honor, the Presidents of all Konkani Associations of Bangalore graced the dias. KON-CAB President Mr. Jhonas D’Souza, honoured the Chief Guest, Presiding officer and all the Guests of Honour with flowers.

The Chief Guest in his speech lauded the efforts of KON-CAB in arranging such a mega event, for the past 20 years. He also appreciated the performance of the participants and observed that the quality of program was getting better year after year. He suggested that we must also have competition for Konkani Speech so that children and youth get a chance to improve their Konkani Language skills.

Ten deserving children of the members of KON-CAB were honored and given meritorious awards for excelling in Academics, Sports and Fine arts.

The Chief Guest and Presidents of all associations distributed the prizes to the winners of all cultural competitions. Here is the winners list:

BKCS – Koramangala and Sezari Bommanahalli were tied at the top spot to bag the “Most Talented Team” rolling trophy jointly. KONCAB and SAKK Marathahalli were tied to share the next spot in the points table.

The program was compered by Mr. Sylvester D’Souza with able support from Mr. Vernon D’Souza and Miss Rachel Machado.

KON-CAB Secretary, Mrs. Nora Menezes proposed the Vote of Thanks and the full day entertainment program drew to a close at 7.00 pm.

At 9:00 am, the KONCAB members and their families attended the thanksgiving KONKANI Mass offered by Rev. Fr. Praveen Pinto. Mr. Tony Lucas led the melodious choir well supported by the KONCAB members and Committee members. Our own Miss Pearl D’Cunha and Miss Alyn Mendonsa played the keyboard for the hymns.

After the Mass, KONCAB had arranged breakfast for the members. The members then assembled in the School Hall to participate in the 23rd Annual General Body Meeting.

The meeting began with the prayer lead by Rev. Fr. Praveen Pinto. President Mrs. Ida Sequeira then called the meeting to order. Secretary Mr. Jhonas D’souza presented the Secretary’s report for the year 2014-15 which was approved by the general body. A minute’s silence and prayer was offered for the repose of souls of members and well-wishers departed in the past year. New members who joined KONCAB in the past year were introduced to the august body.

Treasurer Mr. Sunil D’Cunha presented the audited accounts for the year 2014-15 and it was approved by the august body. Mr. Mark D’Souza was appointed as the auditor for the year 2015-16. KWT Secretary Mr. Joachim Serrao provided an update on the KWT Samudai Bhavan building project and informed the members that the project work has come to stand-still due to shortage of funds. He sought full hearted support and donations from the members.

Thereafter Col. Victor Gomes who presided over as Returning Officer conducted the election proceedings for electing new Executive Committee for the term 2015-2017. As per the nominations filed before him, all new Committee members were elected unopposed. The post of Vice President, Asst Treasurer and one MC member were filled by the in house nomination by the august body.

Here is the newly elected E.C. body that took the charge of KONCAB for the term 2015-2017. 

The outgoing president Mrs. Ida Sequeira thanked the committee and all members for their support during her tenure and congratulated the new committee and wished them success. The newly elected president Mr. Jhonas D’Souza thanked the members for the faith in him and sought everyone’s support in the coming days. He recounted the efforts of all the previous leaders in developing KONCAB into a well-known and prestigious association in Bangalore and promised that he along with the elected committee will do their best to take the association in the same direction on the principles laid down by the predecessors.

Outgoing Jt. Secretary Mr. Godwin Castelino proposed vote of thanks and the AGM was adjourned. Later the members were entertained with Housie-Housie game. Lunch was arranged by KONCAB for all the members.

Koncab Youthwing organised interactive and entertaining activities for everyone along with Action songs and Singing. As a part of this visit All members along with Oldage home members had a fellowship lunch together.

Koncab President -Ida Sequiera, Secretary- Jhonas Dsouza, Treasurer – Sunil Dcunha, Cultural Secretary- Arun Fernandes  and  other Executive committee members along with Koncab Youthwing members present. Koncab Joint Secretary and Youth Leader Godwin Castelino Coordinated the entire event.
